Hortus Praxis is a collective occupation of the Drei Eichelen public park surrounding MUDAM, the Museum of Contemporary Art of Luxembourg orchestrated by Thomas Pausz.
A museum surrounded by a garden is an ecosystem with its multispecies communities, its material and waste cycles, its human and non-human agents. Following a strict foraging philosophy to produce the installations, Hortus Praxis recycled the waste from the museum exhibitions, kitchen and workshops into resources for to create habitats and collective rituals.
We mapped the ‘useful’ plants and flowers of the park. We foraged and experimented with the found ingredients to make drinks and ice creams throughout the summer. We built outside spaces to experiment in the garden, we made music with the watering cans the museum plumber had made for our garden. We hosted printing workshops with our home made natural inks, and printed flyers for Hortus Praxis… on the last day of the exhibition.
Working outdoors, Hortus Praxis establishes a different relation to time and adopts slow production and adaptation to the landscape as a guiding philosophy.
